Blast from Sun Triggered Geomagnetic Storm
Updated 7:03 pm EDT on May 10, 2024 - A powerful solar storm erupted from the sun on Friday, triggering a geomagnetic storm in Earth's atmosphere. The storm, which is expected to persist through the weekend, was caused by a cluster of sunspots on the sun's surface that is 17 times the diameter of the Earth.
Northern Lights Spotted in Maine
Some of the first aurora photos from the United States have emerged from Nate deLabry in Sebago Lake, Maine, where the Northern Lights have been spotted amidst the geomagnetic storm.
